Types of Exhaust fans for kitchen !!…………………please advice.?
The one that we have right now is fixed under the spacemaker microwave and it emitts alll the fumes etc that it sucks in right out form the top of the microwave into the kitchen itself.
It has completely destoyed my ceiling and kitchen wall and also all the cabinets.
The new house that we r moving into has the similar kinds of exhaust so i was wondering if there is something that can vent out all the fumes outside the house.
I have aboslutely no knowledge about exhaust fans so I really dont know how to explain it more clearly coz I dont know the right words for it either.

Range hoods, aka kitchen exhaust fans, can be a complicated matter sometimes. There are a few basic types:
1- Microwave/range hood combination unit (microwave is installed above range and has a built-in range hood).
2- Down-draft exhaust for Jenn-Air style cook tops.
3- Standard range hood.
Most models of all three types of range hoods/exhaust fans can work by venting to the outside OR with a charcoal filter (no venting to outside required). It is always preferable to vent to the outdoors, but sometimes it just isn’t possible. I would be very surprised if in your new home the unit is not vented to the outdoors. You can simply ask your builder.
If you will be having your microwave above the range, I strongly recommend that you purchase a microwave/range hood combination unit. The fact that your current exhaust fan emits fumes into the room is a sign of a problem either with the ducting (could be blocked) or the filter. Discuss your concerns with the builder for your new home and he will be able to help you make the choice that is best for you as they come in varying CFMs (cubic feet per minute for the exhaust speed), as well as different levels of quiet.
